CSAA Makes SIA Training Pact

The Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) has reached an agreement with the Security Industry Association (SIA) in which those taking CSAA’s online Level I operator training course can get certificates from both associations.

That SIA certificate can then be used for states requiring it for licensing. “We could have spent the next six months having the online distance program recognized in every state,” says CSAA Executive Vice President Steve Doyle. “What we did rather than that was go to SIA and they were gracious enough to work out a reciprocal arrangement.”
Doyle adds the agreement will allow central stations to get new operators up to speed much quicker and will not have to send them very far to get trained.

Facial Recognition Fares Poorly

The facial-recognition systems installed at Boston’s Logan Airport showed a high failure rate during a three-month test of the system designed to spot potential terrorists.
In a report by the airport obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union, of 249 volunteers who were in the system to be recognized as terrorists, 39 percent were not recognized by the system.

A spokesman for Identix, one of the companies whose system was used in the test, told USA Today that the technology is far better suited for “one-to-one” identification, such as comparing photos on passports or driver’s licenses.
