Security Network of America Turns 20

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Security Network of America (SNA), which began when the owners of three independent security firms collaborated to more effectively compete against major national companies, recently marked its 20th anniversary.

Established in 1988 as a corporation, 35 SNA companies now serve about 560,000 customers in 30 states and three Canadian provinces. Each company operates its own UL-Listed central monitoring station. Roughly 70 percent of SNA’s customer base is commercial, 30 percent residential.

Although the founding members first envisioned winning national accounts, SNA’s main function is to provide its ranks with superior internal support, David Carter, SNA managing director, tells SECURITY SALES & INTEGRATION.

Among its efforts, the network has established cooperative purchasing arrangements with equipment and service suppliers; the sharing of key performance indicators among member companies; and the development of sophisticated education and training programs.

“We try to harness the power of all the companies and develop for them what we as a collective group believe will get the best value back to them, which they couldn’t afford to do on their own,” Carter says.
