2 NFPA Members Honored

QUINCY, Mass.

Dr. John R. Hall, Jr., and Kathleen Almand of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) were recently honored by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

Hall, assistant vice president of research and analysis for NFPA, received the 2007 Fire Protection Person of the Year for his contributions to the industry. SFPE created the award in 1973 to honor individuals outside of its membership for their achievements in the protection of humanity and the environment from the devastation of unwanted fire.

Hall has been active in fire analysis and research for 30 years. He was formerly an operations research analyst with the U.S. Fire Administration and the National Bureau of Standards Center for Fire Research.

Almand, executive director of NFPA’s Fire Protection Research Foundation, was awarded the D. Peter Lund Award for her contributions to the advancement of the professional recognition of the fire protection engineer.

Almand is the former executive director of SFPE and has held research management positions with the Civil Engineering Research Foundation, the American Iron and Steel Institute, and the National Academy of Science.

The awards were presented at SPFE’s 2007 Professional Development Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas, October 14-19.
