2005 ISC East Special Report: Trophies Tossed Abundantly During New York Show

Published: September 30, 2005

NEW YORK – An awards dinner at one of New York’s most prestigious clubs had a north-of-the-border flavor as three industry associations honored Canada native Marc Mineau, most recently president of access control manufacturer Brivo Systems, with its second-ever Triton Award. The honor for Mineau at the Aug. 24 Tri-Association Dinner in the Three West Club was among several awards and honors given to security professionals during ISC East.

Held jointly by the Security Industry Association (SIA) , the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) and the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), the second annual Tri-Association Dinner featured a salute to Mineau, a past president of SIA and the Canadian Security Association (CANASA) as well as a longtime member of CSAA and NBFAA. Mineau started his career in the industry 30 years ago as an alarm dealer, founding Omnitron Systems. He later created manufacturer Kantech Systems, which he eventually sold to DSC.

Also at the dinner, SIA presented its most prestigious award – the George R. Lippert Award – to SentryNet founder David Avritt. In addition, a portion of the dinner was devoted to each association’s honorees during the past year. Among other awards and honors given out at ISC East:

  • SSI Hall-of-Famer Sandra Jones, founder of consulting firm Sandra Jones and Co., was presented with SIA’s President’s Award during the association’s Annual Membership Luncheon on Aug. 24.
  • NBFAA announced its 2005 Fall Leadership Awards on Aug. 22. Among the honorees were North Carolina Burglar and Fire Alarm Association’s (NCBFAA) Carol McLester as Chartered State Association (CSA) Executive Director of the Year and Wisconsin Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (WBFAA) President Mike Horgan as CSA President of the Year. The Western Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (WBFAA) was named CSA of the Year.
