HOUMA, La. – Two fire districts here opted to be included in a Terrebonne Parish ordinance that makes excessive false police and fire alarms illegal.
The parish council has voted to include Bayou Black’s Fire Protection District No. 9 and Dularge’s Fire Protection District No. 10 in the ordinance, reports KNOE.com.
The recently-approved law springs from a rash of false alarms throughout the parish. It applies only to excessive false alarms that result from faulty equipment.
Under the ordinance, more than three false fire alarms at a single location over a 12-month period will constitute excessive alarms. After the fourth alarm, the property owner or alarm company is subject to a $100 fine. The fifth carries a $200 fine, and sixth and any subsequent alarms carry a $400 fine.
