5 MAJOR ALARM FIRMS BACK ESTABLISHMENT OF UNIFIED ASSOCIATION

CHICAGO
Published: November 16, 2000

CHICAGO—On Nov. 14, at Chicago O’Hare Airport, the Executive Committee of the Security Industry Association (SIA) hosted a meeting to which representatives of the five national alarm companies were invited to obtain their views regarding the formation of one association. The national alarm companies that had representatives present included ADT Security Services, Brink’s Home Security, SecurityLink, Honeywell and Protection One. Each company representative expressed the need for a single industry association to represent the entire electronic security industry. The national companies believe that this would benefit all elements of the industry.

Further, they identified two individuals to participate with the working group supported by the three associations (SIA, the Central Station Alarm Association [CSAA] and the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association [NBFAA]), and which is charged with discussing the views expressed by the five national companies. These national representatives are Gray Finney, general counsel of ADT, and Chris Cage, general counsel of Brink’s Home Security, and will join the other six members of the working group. The national companies hope that a proposed structure can be developed and submitted to the Executive Committees of SIA, NBFAA, CSAA by the end of January 2001.
