SAN RAMON, Calif. — ONVIF-compliant IP-based security products have doubled from 300 to 600 within three months, according to the open standards alliance.
Started in 2008, ONVIF aims to ease the integration of network security products with a global standard. More than 250 companies have joined the group, including manufacturers, consultants and integrators.
Principal of Matterhorn Consulting Paul Boucherle, CPP, CSC, tells SSI that the announcement “speaks to the void” of protocols that have been missing in the industry.
“It’s a good start because it puts us on the same page,” he says. “It’s been a long time coming for us to get close to that in this industry. It talks a great deal about networks. When you think about it, network standards have been around for years, and we’ve lacked those. This is certainly a move in the right direction.”
The alliance recently released the Core Specification 2.0 to extend ONVIF‘s reach to video storage, display devices, video analytics and other product types.
