Access Control Stats from 2014 Gold Book

The average number of access control projects settled back to 60 in 2013 following an upswing during the prior year. Nearly three-fourths (69%) of installing security contractors only install 1-4 access control systems per month, and nearly nine in 10 (89%) install fewer than 10 each month. Large companies ($10 million or more in annual revenues) are putting in an average of 156 access systems on an annual basis compared to 120 four years ago. The average for small operators is 42 and 60 for midsize companies.

The order of the top six access control markets remained unchanged from a year ago, with only residential (+2 percentage points) and retail/entertainment (+1 point) exhibiting growth. Nursing homes/assisted living/daycare and churches/temples/worship centers appear for the first time and combined for 9% of the total pie. The top market for large companies is government and industrial for midsize firms. Small operators get 42% from offi ces and homes.
