ATLANTA — With its recent acquisition of ADS Security’s Norcross, Ga.-based branch, Ackerman Security has added 3,800 accounts.
The deal, which closed April 7, results from Nashville, Tenn.-headquartered ADS Security’s decision to spend its resources in more established offices, Ackerman Security COO Jim Callahan tells SSI.
ADS Security acquired the accounts with its 2008 purchase of SecurNet Protective Services, which established the company’s first office in a major metropolitan market.
“During a dinner conversation back in late 2010 with ADS CEO Mel Mahler, we decided this would benefit both companies,” he says. “The transaction provides Ackerman with 3,800 accounts, which could easily be assimilated into our market footprint. As the dominant player in Atlanta, these additional accounts take us to more than 70,000 subscribers.”
Started in 1967, Ackerman provides security alarm systems and runs its own UL-Listed Five Diamond certified central station. It acquired roughly 90 percent residential and 10 percent commercial accounts from ADS.
“The marketing strategy used by ADS was very similar to ours,” says Callahan. “The acquired clients match up nicely with our existing client profile. Additionally, many ADS employees will remain on staff in their respective roles.”
