ADT Security Services recently honored the Sacramento
Police Department with the first AWARE (Abused Women’s
Active Response Emergency) award for its 14-year commitment
to a national domestic violence protection program that has
been instrumental in saving more than 30 battered people
nationwide. The award will be given to the department in a
ceremony in the atrium at the police department
headquarters.

“It’s fitting that we honor one of our longest-standing
partners, the Sacramento Police Department, with the first
AWARE Award,” says Nancy Chisholm, regional vice president,
west, with ADT. “The department has been unfailing in its
support of this life-saving program and has been a valuable
partner in fighting the scourge of domestic violence.”

Participants in the AWARE program are victims of
domestic abuse and are assessed to be in the highest level
of danger. Once meeting the necessary criteria,
participants are placed in the program and ADT installs, at
no charge, security systems in each of their homes and
provides them with emergency duress alarms, such as a
necklace pendant, for as long as the need exists. 

When activated, the system will send a silent signal to one of ADT’s monitoring centers, which is staffed by trained professionals 24 hours a day. Activation can be performed by pressing either the button on the pendant or the emergency button on the keypad. ADT operators will then alert the local police department. In Sacramento, the alarm systems and emergency pendants are rotated among “at-risk” individuals.
