ADT Donates Costumes to Award Winners

ADT Security Services Inc. joined with the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) to donate McGruff the Crime Dog costumes to the winners of the 2007 McGruff Crime Prevention Awards of Excellence. McGruff the Crime Dog is the NCPC’s icon for crime prevention.

The six winners received their awards Oct. 4 at the National Conference on Preventing Crime in Atlanta. The costumes were awarded to the winners’ local law enforcement agency.

The individuals and organizations selected to receive the costumes:

  • Nick Arlt of Wisconsin for Crime Prevention Citizen/Volunteer of the Year

  • Daryl Pearson of Washington for Crime Prevention Officer of the Year

  • Youth Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County (Fla.) for Crime Prevention Program of the Year in a city with a population of over 250,000

  • Ewa Weed & Seed of Hawaii for Crime Prevention Program of the Year in a city with a population of less than 250,000

  • Darkness to Light of South Carolina for Crime Prevention Program of the Year (state or national)

  • Virginia Crime Prevention Association for Crime Prevention State Association or Coalition of the Year

An additional costume was donated to the Lansing Police Department in honor of Ruth Hallman, a Neighborhood Watch and community crime prevention volunteer from Lansing, Mich., who was killed in a home invasion earlier this year.

Since 2005, ADT has donated costumes to 31 local law enforcement agencies that were recognized by NCPC for their year-round commitment to educating communities about how to stay safe from crime.
