ADT Security Services, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and the American Kennel Club (AKC) are teaming up to help save an estimated 500,000 pets affected in home fires each year. Pet safety offers any security provider another potential avenue to turn prospects into customers or sell additional solutions to an existing client base.
A recent AKC study indicates 88 percent of pet owners consider pets to be valued family members. That is why is it essential for homeowners to have fire monitoring systems in addition to smoke alarms, so pets can be better protected when left home alone. This also creates a unique opportunity for dealers to approach customers on security systems installations or upgrades.
“One of the hallmarks of responsible dog ownership is keeping pets safe and planning for unexpected emergencies, including house fires,” says AKC spokesperson Lisa Peterson. “Each year as part of AKC’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day Celebration in September, we educate first-time dog owners about what dog ownership entails. This year we are pleased to distribute ADT pet alert ‘window clings’ at our events in New York City and Raleigh, N.C., to focus attention on how to potentially save pets’ lives.”
