ADT Hits Vision Security With Another Lawsuit for Deceptive Sales Practices
BOCA RATON, Fla. — ADT has filed a lawsuit against Vision Security to ban the door-to-door alarm company from using deceptive sales pitches.
The lawsuit comes two months after Orem, Utah-based Vision Security and West Palm Beach, Fla.-based Security Networks, of which Vision Security is an affiliate, agreed to pay ADT $2.2 million and agreed to a permanent injunction for engaging in deceptive sales practices.
Prior to the recent filing, representatives for Vision Security maintained the firm did not tolerate deceptive sales practices. Furthermore, the firm blamed customer complaints on isolated rogue sales agents, according to a press release.
However, the lawsuit claims that following the settlement, former Vision Security employees provided ADT with copies of audio and video recordings of Vision Security sales training sessions. In these sessions, instructors allegedly trained the sales team to pose as GE technicians when selling alarm systems. Additionally, the sales representatives were to tell consumers that they could upgrade alarm panels free of charge, at the direction of local police and fire departments.
“The new revelation in our lawsuit alleges that Vision trained more than 100 sales agents to use false sales pitches and urged them to record and share these pitches with others,” says Hannah Lim, chief litigation officer at ADT. “We will continue to litigate aggressively against companies that misrepresent ADT to consumers.”
The latest filing also seeks to obtain further damages and attorney fees.
