ADT Security Services announces it has joined a collaborative effort to protect victims of domestic violence in Haywood County, N.C. The program, called AWARE® (Abused Women’s Active Response Emergency), places security systems and emergency necklace pendants in the residents of battered or abused victims.
ADT was recently honored as a recipient of the 2007 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) award for its AWARE program. Specifically, ADT received the Allied Professional Award, given by the Office of Victims of Crime, U.S. Department of Justice, and presented by the U.S. Attorney General. The award recognizes individuals from a specific discipline outside the victim assistance field for their service to victims and contribution to the crime victim’s arena.
ADT installs security systems in the homes of AWARE participants at no charge and provides them with emergency duress alarms for as long as the need exists. The system can send a silent alarm when activated to ADT’s customer monitoring center. ADT operators can then alert the appropriate law enforcement agency an AWARE call has been received and officers will be dispatched to the victim’s residence.
“Being part of the AWARE program is a natural extension of our support of the community and our concern for the growing incidence of domestic violence nationwide,” says Robin Brockinton, area sales manager, ADT Security Services. “The AWARE program has been extremely successful nationwide. ADT has introduced it in 177 cities across the country since January 1992. Our decision to offer AWARE in Haywood County was due to the intense interest expressed by the community.”
