ADT provided a state-of-the-art electronic surveillance system for Team ADT Champion Racing during the Annual 24 Hours of Le Mans, and that proved to be a winning combination as one of the two ADT-sponsored teams raced to victory. The ADT team of Tom Kristensen and co-drivers J.J. Lehto and Marco Werner finished first in the 24-hour race on June 18 and 19, as Kristensen set a record with his seventh Le Mans victory.
Unlike previous years, the 2005 Le Mans testing weekend (June 5) and race weekend were scheduled less than two weeks apart, posing a new security challenge for the teams. Usually, the race teams pack up after testing and go home for several weeks before the event. Because the weekends were so close together, each team’s equipment had to stay on-site, making it vulnerable to theft and vandalism.
In response to Team ADT Champion Racing’s concerns over the security of its components and spares, ADT provided a mobile CCTV vehicle and placed it in the team’s pit paddock area. The vehicle was outfitted with the newest CCTV technology to provide 24-hour monitoring for the team, including a live feed from strategically placed cameras to Team ADT Champion Racing’s management center.
This was the first time in the history of Le Mans that a team was provided with this kind of electronic surveillance.
