BOCA RATON, Fla. – ADT has modified its reward program to deter rival security alarm companies from using deceptive sales practices to steal consumers.

The security giant launched the program last year, along with other tactics, to combat competitor fraud.

“The result [of the program] was significant national awareness about home security swindlers who prey on unsuspecting consumers,” ADT General Counsel David Bleisch says. “By fine-tuning the program this year we can now offer the reward to a wider audience to help stop the fraud plaguing our industry.”

Starting May 15, the new reward program offers up to $5,000 for lawfully obtained information showing how alarm companies are training employees to engage in deceptive sales practices. The total amount of the reward is entirely in the sole discretion of ADT.

To earn the reward, the following conditions must be fulfilled:

  1. ADT must receive the evidence by August 31, 2015.
  2. The evidence must be obtained lawfully and be admissible in court.
  3. The evidence must be truthful.
  4. The same or substantially similar evidence cannot be previously provided to ADT.

Over the past year, attorneys general in several states have imposed legal action against companies which have made false or misleading statements while selling security alarm services door-to-door.

Last year, ADT received a $2 million settlement against a Tennessee company which also included a written apology for its past actions. The security firm will continue filing lawsuits against offending companies.
