MONTGOMERY, Ala. — ADT scammers continue to strike this summer, this time here. An ADT customer was tricked into signing a new security system contract with another company after a woman told the man she worked closely with ADT and that he was receiving an upgrade.
“I feel terrible,” the man, who was not identified by Alabama News, said. “I feel stupid. But you know, I wasn’t on my game. Usually you couldn’t get me like that.”
Back in May, two people tried scamming an elderly woman in Georgia by trying to gain access inside her home. The woman stood her ground and the two were later arrested.
Bob Tucker, ADT director of corporate affairs, said these companies are hiring young adults to go door to door. They could get denied 98 times out of 100, but that one or two times they are successful could mean a big payday for the salesman and the company.

The story does have a happy ending for the man who was scammed: He suspected something was wrong, called the company and was able to get out of the contract.
“I told them, ‘Look, I can’t do this. I don’t like it, I don’t feel right about it,'” the man said.
