AIREF to Host 9th Annual Golf Classic at ISC West

LAS VEGAS — The Alarm Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) will host its ninth annual golf tournament at the Revere Golf Club here on March 27, one day prior to the kickoff of ISC West.

Each year the tournament offers participants a casual golf outing with other industry professionals, all the while supporting the organization’s research initiatives.

The all-volunteer, nonprofit foundation was created in 1977 by the Electronic Security Association (ESA) to serve as the research arm of the industry. In 2003, AIREF and ESA founded the golf tournament as a way to help raise money for industry research. Funding for the foundation is derived almost solely from the event.

Research studies funded by AIREF include:

  • 2011 Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) Law Enforcement Video on Alarm Management Solutions, which is distributed to municipalities nationwide.
  • Salt Lake City survey of residents that showed 65% of registered voters disapprove of the city’s verified response ordinance
  • A study by Rutgers University that showed residential burglar alarms deter crime
