I learned Friday that my dear friend Mike Revness passed away. He was just 59 years old.
Working with thousands of attorneys from across the country, Mike was special and unique in that he genuinely cared about people, our industry, and always went out of his way to make a difference. Notably, it never mattered if he was being paid for his services or not. Simplified, that was Mike’s vision and purpose: to leave the world in a better place than he found it and he did just that.
Incredibly, each and every time that I spoke to Mike Revness, I learned something new. Like scores of others, we will remember each of those lessons forever. Everyone that knew Mike or worked with him was aware of his prominent level of intelligence, his gift of being an eloquent communicator, a teacher and mentor and his good old-fashioned authenticity.
What Michael Revness Meant to the Alarm Industry
Academically, Michael graduated first in his law school graduating class and he was a nationally ranked triathlete and duathlete. Before starting law school, Michael taught tennis professionally. Time and time again Mike generously donated his time and expertise over the decades providing pro bono legal services to, among others, the New Jersey Electronic Life Safety Industry and the Pennsylvania Fire and Burglar Alarm Association.
Michael also donated his time and expertise to teaching continuing education classes at industry symposiums and at other events where alarm contractors were required to obtain or maintain security alarm licensure through continuing education.
Mike was a trusted advisor to hundreds of locally and nationally recognized alarm companies and central stations.
Additionally, Mike represented the top business leaders in the security alarm/life-safety industry by assisting them in navigating through complex account purchase transactions, nationwide litigation, the maze of licensing and regulation, business expansion and contraction, employment staffing, unique industry contracts, customer service challenges, prophetically envisioning and planning for the future of the industry and general legal matters that invariably come up throughout the business day of alarm contracting and central station monitoring.
“May his memory be a blessing.”
“Hamakom yinachem etchem betoch sha’ar avlei tzion v’yerushalayim,”
“May God comfort you among all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.”
