Allied Research Sells Off Defense Department Subsidiary

VIENNA, Va.

Allied Research Corp., a diversified defense and commercial electronic security firm, has agreed to sell its subsidiary, Barnes & Reinecke Inc., to United Defense Limited Partners (UDLP) of Arlington,Va.  Terms were not disclosed, but closing of the deal is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2000.  UDLP, an operating unit of privately held Carlyle Group, a global investment organization based in Washington, D.C., is a $1.2 billion contractor of armored weapons systems.  Barnes & Reinecke specializes in providing systems technical support and performance upgrades for defense departments worldwide.  Allied Research develops and produces ammunition, supplies equipment performance upgrades for defense departments, and designs, produces and markets sophisticated electronic security and access control systems.
