Electronic security provider American Alarm has transformed
an abandoned car dealership into its state-of-the-art new
headquarters in Arlington, Mass. American Alarm, founded by
outgoing Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) President
Richard Sampson 34 years ago, designed its new 32,000-
square-foot home light-filled spaces with functional cables
and hardware designed to celebrate technology.
“We had no room for growth in our old building,” said
American Alarm President William McLaughlin. “We had the
technology to grow but not the space. This is like a new
beginning for us, and we’re ready for our next level of
growth.”
Sampson and McLaughlin selected architecture firm Harrison
Mulhern to renovate the old car dealership. They fulfilled
American Alarm’s request for a turn away from the “bunker-
style” feeling of some alarm company home bases, utilizing
a domed skylight to let light into a stairwell flanked by a
waterfall and interior garden.
