KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A Tennessee woman says an alarm salesman tricked her into signing a contract with AMP Security even though she already had an agreement with ADT.
Linda Oatman says that a sales rep from American Fork, Utah-based AMP Security approached her, wanting to replace her ADT security system with one from his company. He allegedly told her that the AMP Security system was a better solution because it uses Honeywell products, WATE.com reports.
The man told the woman that ADT had been bought out by a company in Japan. Oatman notes that she could not read the small print on the contract, but gave in when the rep told her his company helped pay off his student loans for each security system he sold.

The day the AMP system was installed, Oatman says she began experiencing problems with the solution. When she called to cancel her five-year contract, AMP Security told her that it would cost her $1,250 for an early termination fee.
ADT says that at least 12 of its customers in Knoxville have been scammed by competing security firms this year.
The company recently modified its reward program to stop companies from training their employees to scam ADT customers.
