In an effort to increase education funding, the Arkansas
state Legislature has raised its state sales tax to 6
percent and extended the scope of the tax to include many
services, including security and alarm monitoring.
Collection on the tax begins July 1, and alarm companies
and other service-oriented businesses must register to
collect and report sales tax and acquire a permit by that
date.
Businesses that fail to report or pay two months of sales
and use tax will be notified by the Arkansas Department of
Finance and Administration (ADFA) to bring the account
current. The department can also close the business until
it complies.
