Arlo Unveils DIY Security System With All-In-One Multisensor

The security system’s hub is said to be the first-of-its-kind to feature NFC technology so users can arm/disarm the system with a tap of their mobile device.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Arlo Technologies (NYSE: ARLO) has unveiled the Arlo Security System ahead of CES 2022, a DIY security monitoring solution that rounds out the Arlo ecosystem.

Recognized as a 2022 CES Innovation Award honoree, the security system features what is said to be a first-of-its-kind, all-in-one multisensor capable of eight different sensing functions and a security hub with an integrated keypad.

The system works with Arlo security camera devices, the Arlo app and Arlo Secure service plan to provide home and small business owners with the ultimate security and monitoring setup, according to the announcement.

The all-in-one multisensor is capable of recognizing motion, door/window openings and tilt, water leaks, light/temperature changes, and T3 and T4 smoke/CO alarm patterns.

The company says the multisensor provides maximum flexibility and simple installation. Measuring 1.1 inches wide, the multisensor sets the bar for versatility in a compact design and can be placed anywhere without hardwiring.

“We engineered the Arlo Security System to not only complete Arlo’s ecosystem but to address pain points common with other solutions on the market,” says Tim Johnston, SVP of product at Arlo. “The system’s standout all-in-one multisensor simplifies life for consumers with its versatility, ensuring they can enlist one intelligent sensor to tackle a variety of use cases. Additionally, the system seamlessly works with existing Arlo security camera devices in a user’s household to layer on important information for complete, whole-home peace of mind — a benefit not available with competitive offerings.”

The security system’s modular hub serves as central control and offers built-in features such as a siren, motion and smoke/CO alarm sensor, and an integrated backlit keypad for day or night management. The hub is also said to be the first-of-its-kind to feature NFC technology so users can quickly arm/disarm the system with a tap of their mobile device.

Users also benefit from ArloRF technology in the multisensor and hub which is said to provide stronger encryption with longer range and anti-jamming properties.

Arlo Announces Support for Matter

Arlo also announced its support for Matter, a connectivity standard built around a shared belief that smart home devices should be seamlessly interoperable, secure and reliable. Arlo is joining industry leaders to participate in the development of the open-source standard, further enhancing its ability to provide an integrated smart home security experience.

“We’re thrilled to affirm our partnership with Matter and be at the forefront of guiding the specification as it takes shape,” says Tejas Shah, chief information officer and SVP of software and services at Arlo. “Innovation is at the core of Arlo’s DNA. Collaboration with Matter members to advance the integration between Internet of Things devices — ultimately delivering home security solutions that are highly intuitive, secure and simple to use — is the driving force behind our commitment.”

The Matter smart home protocol is expected to be released in the first half of 2022 after being delayed last August.
