ASIS Issues Chief Security Officer Guidelines

ASIS Int’l (ASIS) has published the draft of a guideline
designed to provide a model for organizations to use when
developing a leadership position that provides a
comprehensive security risk strategy. The draft guideline
for the C-Level position of Chief Security Officer was
released Nov. 24 and is undergoing a 60-day public review
and comment period that ends on Jan. 24.

Among other relevant material, the Chief Security Officer
Guideline contains information on the position’s scope,
reporting relationships, a model profile chart, and the
job’s key responsibilities and accountabilities. It also
provides the competencies necessary for the successful CSO,
what kind of experience that should be taken into
consideration when hiring and what education a future CSO
should have.
