ASIS Study Finds Status Quo for Security Managers

A study by ASIS Int’l has found that the basic components of a security manager’s job haven’t changed since 9/11. The finding is made in ASIS’ most recent Job Analysis study. The study was conducted among Certified Protection Professionals (CPPs) worldwide to reexamine the knowledge and skills of CPPs, as well as their work-related tasks and major areas of responsibility.

Every five years, ASIS sends a detailed questionnaire to a random sample of CPPs asking for information regarding their backgrounds and the various responsibilities of their positions. The analysis of these responses is applied to the exam to ensure it reflects the most important job-related activities and standards.

While little has changed for CPPs in the past few years, new tasks for almost every business domain have included various security-ensuring measures that were previously absent. The area in business deemed “Protection of Sensitive Information” has broadened to “Information Security” and has a wider list of coverage activities. Also, the domain of Security Management has been divided into Security Principles and Practices, and Business Principles and Practices.
