ORLANDO, Fla. – Arecont Vision Executive Vice President Scott Schafer emphasized at the show that the video surveillance camera manufacturer’s three primary objectives are to continue to lead the market; continue to improve performance; and drive ease of installation through new innovations. Some of the examples he cited for that included Arecont’s field-upgradeable firmware that also allows security integrators to impress customers by remotely servicing their needs; remote focusing feature that alleviates installers having to tinker with adjustments while on the ladders; magnetic dome camera housings to allow for single-hand installer maneuvering; and spring-arm camera design to ease the mounting process.

From a new products standpoint, Arecont mainly promoted two new and very different types of cameras. The MegaDome 4K UHD, which delivers 4K megapixel (MP) coverage at 30 frames per second, is suited for casinos or any environments that want to avoid missing any of the action in a scene. The MegaDome 4K is one of the first cameras that features SNAPstream, although an upcoming firmware release will be backward compatible with most cameras Arecont has built and shipped in years past.

The other spotlighted product was the MegaVideo Flex camera, available with 1.2MP, 1080p, 3MP or 5MP resolutions. It features an ultra-small lens and sensor package that connects to the main camera unit over a standard USB cable up to 40 feet away. One or two optional IR illuminators can also be added if needed. According to Arecont, the product is suited for discreet or inconspicuous surveillance needs such as gas pumps, ATMs and drive-thru windows, as well as in museums, banks, hotel lobbies, etc. It can also be deployed in elevators, cars, trucks, buses, trains, boats or aircraft.
