ASIS 2016: Milestone Packs More Features Into Its Flagship VMS

Market leader also unveils a new plug-and-play NVR unit.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Video management software (VMS) leader Milestone Systems always has a lot going on and to convey at the big shows, such as hardware and software product introductions and updates, partnerships and application projects. Among all the news was the third release of the year of the award-winning XProtect Advanced VMS.

Courtney Dillon Pedersen, Milestone PR Manager Americas/APAC, said XProtect’s enhancements include a new strategy for storing video in RAM before committing recordings to disk with initial testing showing up to 80% savings in disk activity. With Milestone’s new Scalable Video Quality Recording (SVQR), when cameras are connected to a high bandwidth network, high quality recordings from the cameras’ local storage can be retrieved by XProtect 2016 R3 Advanced by event, schedule or manually. In this way SVQR improves evidence investigation as well as real-time situational awareness. Other features include H.265 compression support; Street Maps function to further enable situational awareness; and cybersecurity hardening.

Milestone also announced its new Husky M20 NVR, a plug-and-play device that comes preloaded with an optimized version of XProtect Professional with Smart Start to enable compatible cameras to be automatically configured. The unit also features an integrated managed switch and user-replaceable hard disks.
