ORLANDO, Fla. – If you’ve followed the transformation of Vanderbilt Industries in recent time then you are aware the company has been making serious headway as a leading global provider of access control technology.

Among its significant maneuvers, the New Jersey-based company went global in the fall of 2015 with an agreement to acquire the Siemens Security Products business in Germany. Previous to that deal Vanderbilt’s parent firm, ACRE, LLC, had acquired the popular OEM vendor Mercury Security in 2013 and, as its foundation, Ingersoll-Rand’s controllers business in 2012, which operates globally today as Vanderbilt Int’l. Mercury Security and Vanderbilt Industries are operated as separate entities.

SSI met up Vanderbilt Industries President Mitchell Kane on the show floor in Orlando, during which he detailed some of the company’s latest business development plans. Vanderbilt, he said, has been working feverishly to move to the Mercury platform. “We’re almost there,” he said.

A topic in particular that Kane is quick to highlight is the portfolio addition of the newly acquired Access Control Technology Ltd. (ACT), based in Dublin, Ire., and its video management software (VMS) and cloud-based access control systems. What excites Kane most about the transaction is, “It brings in a platform that hits a different [niche] we do not currently have – a hosted solution that brings our entry to market at a lower barrier. It fills a gap in our portfolio.”

Here are three words sure to pique the interest of installing security dealers: recurring monthly revenue. Kane says ACT’s ACT365 hosted solution provides management for access and video at a single door, which then becomes scalable.

“This gives us the ability to go to market with an economical and complimentary platform with an RMR model,” he said.
