A reshuffling of positions at ASSA ABLOY has become a step up for Security Industry Association (SIA) President Joe Grillo. Grillo, president and CEO of ASSA ABLOY’s Identification Technology Group (ITG), is joining parent company ASSA ABLOY AB’s Stockholm-based executive team with a promotion to executive vice president.

Grillo will report to Bo Dankis, CEO of ASSA ABLOY AB, and will also now serve as president and CEO of ASSA ABLOY’s Global Technologies Group. The $700 million worldwide business consists of the company’s ITG, Hospitality and door automatics divisions. Grillo will also maintain his president and CEO title at ITG.

The industry veteran came to ASSA ABLOY through HID Corp., which he joined in 1993 as national sales manager. He worked his way up through the company and was named president and CEO of HID when it was acquired by ASSA ABLOY in 2001 and moved into his ITG position a year later.

Change at the top has also come to ASSA ABLOY North America, where Thanasis Molokotos has replaced Clas Thelin as CEO.

The move, made in late January, was made after Thelin returned to his former company Securitas, which itself is a spinoff of ASSA ABLOY. Molokotos has been with ASSA ABLOY sine 1996.
