ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The famous Boardwalk here will soon be equipped with security cameras.
The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) agreed on Dec. 15 to fund the installation of approximately 230 video surveillance cameras during the winter and spring. The CRCA issued about $11 million for the installation of the cameras, according to Press of Atlantic City.
David Rebuck, head of New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement and member of the CRDA’s board of directors, called the project “the first of its kind in this state” on a boardwalk.
Sixty of the security cameras will be positioned on poles where police can monitor the intersection of beach blocks and the wooden walkway.
Two cameras will also be installed on each of the soon-to-be 85 digital-display poles used for advertising on the Boardwalk. NeXomedia — operator of the digital displays — will have access to those cameras to gather demographic information of crowds on the Boardwalk.
