Atronic Provides Security Systems for Domestic Violence Victims
LENEXA, Kan. — As part of its philanthropic efforts, Atronic Alarms has partnered with the Domestic Violence Protection Services Agency (DVPSA) to offer electronic security systems to victims of domestic violence in the Kansas City metro area.
DVPSA Founder Wade Thomas launched the nonprofit program in 2009 in support of persons who are transitioning to a life free of abuse. In addition to the security systems, DVPSA offers physical protection and education to domestic violence victims.
Atronic became involved with DVPSA last year during the organization’s annual 5K run/walk fundraiser, Atronic Alarms Operations Manager Todd Harrison tells SSI. As a result, Thomas approached Harrison about providing electronic security to abuse victims.
“When Wade approached me, it was a no-brainer,” Harrison says. “The owner of our company is very philanthropic, and I volunteer for a program called CrimeStoppers. When it comes to domestic violence, I have a thing in my heart about that. These people go through a lot of pain, and they’re always looking over their shoulders.”
For its part, Atronic will provide emergency panic alarm and intrusion detection to DVSPA at a discounted price for victims. With a special protocol setup, a monitored security system can dispatch the police immediately in the event of an alarm.
“The whole idea is to provide layers of security for battered women who have restraining orders on individuals,” Harrison says. “The key is protecting these people when a police officer is not there with them.”
