LAS VEGAS – Security dealer, integrator, consultant or end user, ISC West attendees expressed a variety of concerns regarding their businesses and the trends that are changing the security industry.
“False alarms in the residential sector have prompted us to go into the commercial market. That’s why we’re moving into DVRs, which is where the industry seems to be going,” James Roche, Alarm King Inc., Riverside, Calif.
“After five years attending ISCs, I have seen products evolve from flashy, gimmicky features to better-designed systems for the user. However, training has always lagged behind,” Michael Mogalinski, University of California at San Diego (end user).
“We remain concerned on the influx of unskilled providers who give security a bad name,” Bret Swartz, UAS Inc., Broomall, Pa.
“Industry consolidation is definitely a concern. With the big fish gobbling up the little fish, we [dealers] are starting to lose the one-on-one relationship that we’ve had with manufacturers,” Gary Davidson, Fire Security and Control, Colorado Springs, Colo.
“My concerns are the big buyouts and how they may change the way products work. That’s the way the industry is going,” John Papaleo, Advanced Warning Security Systems, Cohoes, N.Y.
