The August Smart Lock is attempting to revolutionize home security by monitoring who can and can’t enter a home at a given time at the touch of a smart phone.
But when put to the test, how does it perform? John Patrick Pullen of Time.com put it to the test and came back with mixed results.
The premise of Pullen’s argument is based on the effectiveness of the Smart Lock’s Auto-Unlock function, meant to open the door as customers walk towards their front door. But after testing it, Pullen found the door unlocked as he pulled up to the curb outside of his house, which is a problem for people living in densely-packed areas and in apartment buildings.
“It would be great if the Apple Watch could be paired with the August Lock so I could use it to unlock the door simply by reaching for the knob,” Pullman wrote, “but that concept is also sci-fi – at least until the next version of Watch OS is released.”
