AxonX LLC announces it has garnered the Wall Street
Journal‘s 2006 Innovation Award in the Security
(Facilities) category. The developer of early warning fire
detection technologies was chosen for a security-camera
system that uses artificial-intelligence software to detect
and identify smoke and fire in large commercial buildings.
AxonX’s SigniFire(TM) video system detects fires faster
by spotting them from a distance. The company’s technology
applies advanced, artificial intelligence to analyze live
video images obtained by ordinary security surveillance
cameras and identifies fire and smoke, while also alerting
appropriate personnel.
“We are honored to be recognized,” said AxonX founder
George Privalov. “The award validates our conviction that
SigniFire(TM) will revolutionize the way businesses and
homes protect their assets and facilities.”
In March, Johnson Controls Inc. announced it would
distribute the technology as part of its building-controls
products.
A Wall Street Journal editor initially screened
more than 600 applications for the awards program. The
judges then considered 121 of the entries, selecting 12
category winners and 37 runners-up. Winners were judged
based on whether the technology truly represents a
breakthrough from conventional methods, rather than just an
incremental improvement.
