PARIS — We’re starting to get an idea about how robust the security deployment for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be, although the true scope and breadth of the safety protocols are intentionally being kept under wraps by the group that’s being charged with protecting 10,000 athletes and million of fans.
Keir Simmons, chief international correspondent for NBC News, recently shared some of the plans for security in and around Paris for the duration of the Games from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, Aug. 11, including the deployment of 45,000 people to ensure the Olympics remain safe throughout.
Part of that effort will be the helicopter division of the military police, which will provide around-the-clock protection of the Olympics, including some covert operations that most people won’t even notice but will provide for a better experience for everyone involved.

The Opening Ceremony, which will span about 3.5 miles across the historic River Seine in the first Olympic opener outside a stadium, promises to attract more than 300,000 spectators, according to Simmons’ report.
The helicopter team promises to have “eyes everywhere,” even if spectators won’t see them.
Simmons’ report says spectators can expect to endure more than 1 billion bag checks as they enter the various Olympics venues during the two-week duration of the Games. An anti-drone squad will be perched on one of the Paris rooftops, using radar guns to “neutralize illegal drones,” the report says.
The security force will also be assisted by dogs who are trained to search and attack as needed.
“We will continue to defend the values of our country and to welcome the world,” Tony Estanguet, president of Paris 2024 Olympics told NBC News.
