Biometric Access Control Protects Resident at Mass. Senior Community

CHELSEA, Mass. — To provide a better sense of safety for residents, DCRM Solutions, a security services and solutions provider, installed the FST21 SafeRise access control solution at the Greenhouse Apartments Senior Community here.

SafeRise uses a combination of second-generation biometrics to provide the highest level of security to organizations, according to the company. The system does not use keys, cards or codes. Instead, the face and voice of authorized personnel works like a key. Harbor Management, a fully integrated real estate management company that oversees the 62-plus apartment home community, chose to install the technology based on the positive experience it had when installing SafeRise at its Ocean Shores community in nearby Lynn, Mass.

“The positive feedback from our residents was a key factor in moving forward with this additional deployment,” says Michael Kiley, senior vice president, Harbor Management. “Some have said they feel safer now than when we had physical guards on site.”

To install the system, Harbor Management executives reached out to their go-to integrator for more than a decade, DCRM Solutions. The Princeton, Mass.-based integrator provides 24-hour site video monitoring, video verification, video access control and video remote guarding for numerous vertical markets, including multifamily housing, retail, banking and automotive.

Together, Harbor Management and DCRM representatives determined that the SafeRise solution would be most beneficial for Greenhouse Apartments. To gain access into the building, residents simply look at a camera and the door will automatically open.

“The promise and the dedication of the FST21 team made our decision to employ it at the Greenhouse Apartments even easier,” notes David Dearborn, CEO of DCRM. “The residents at Ocean Shores love the level of convenience SafeRise delivers, so being able to bring that to the senior residents at the Greenhouse community was a major consideration. And, introducing a dual language audio portion, English and/or Spanish, was a great hit among the residents. The fact that access is ‘hands-free’ for them is another very attractive benefit.”
