INDIANAPOLIS — A would-be burglar attempted to break into the headquarters of alarm company Sonitrol Inc. Monitors alerted police to the crime-in-progress at their own building and the suspect was captured in the act less than 10 minutes after the break-in began.
The only damage was to the window to the office of Sonitrol President Kevin Estes. “Your first instinct is whether they’re on drugs,” says Estes, who was out of town at the time of the attempted break-in. “He hit a few other places in our neighborhood and it was just our turn.”
In video and audio of the Oct. 30 incident provided by Sonitrol to SSI, the suspect is seen pounding his shovel into the window and talks to himself about the mess of broken glass he was leaving. Minutes later, an officer’s flashlight shines at the suspect, who is heard to say, “Aw, [expletive].
