The city council in the Northern California city of Tracy has rejected a police proposal for a form of verified response, telling the architect of the plan to work with the alarm industry on a solution to false alarms. The council told Tracy Police Capt. Mike Maciel to work with alarm companies and associations on developing regulations on who can and cannot install alarms in the city.
The council told city staff members of the decision on May 4, according to the Tri-City Herald.
“I think its important we work with the alarm companies and the police department to make this a win-win situation for everybody in the city – from business centers to homeowners,” Tracy Councilwoman Irene Sundberg told the Herald.
Under a proposal he called “Certified Response,” Maciel called for only having police respond to alarms after an alarm owner or alarm company confirmed to police that they would meet officers upon their arrival.
