The HCD484E day/night camera by Honeywell of Louisville, Ky., features a removable IR cut filter for either indoor or outdoor use. When used outdoors, the Honeywell Model HHC12 Series of environmental housings offers protection from humidity, heat and other adverse conditions.
The IR cut filter is used during the day for true color rendition. At night, it can be removed to provide an increase in IR sensitivity, which is well suited for low-light conditions. According to Honeywell, the change from day to night is controlled by an internal logic circuit that can make decisions based on scene illumination in addition to an external light sensor or an RS-485 communication port.
