Published: December 20, 2005

Every floor of every house in the Canadian province of Ontario will be required to have a smoke detector by next Spring. The Ontario Fire Marshal has made a change to the Ontario Fire Code where homeowners will be required to purchase and install multiple alarms if they live in a multistory home.

The change, announced by Ontario Fire Marshall Bernard Moyle on Dec. 13, will take effect on March 1 according to the Canadian Press.

The law covers single-family homes, and semi-detached houses and townhouses whether they are owned or rented.
