Canadian Telecom Breaks Into Home Monitoring Business

TORONTO — Rogers Communications, a Canadian telecom company, has launched its Smart Home Monitoring system. The remote home monitoring service will allow users to manage security systems, indoor lighting and appliances via Web-enabled devices, FierceTelecom reports.

Priced at $40 a month, the service features a touchpad, which connects with the Rogers central monitoring station simultaneously over the company’s cable and wireless networks.

Rogers’ announcement comes two weeks after Verizon and Bright House proclaimed their intentions to begin offering home control and monitoring services.
