Canadian Transit Organization Considers Surveillance Cameras on Vehicles

OTTAWA

The Canadian government agency that oversees transportation has received a recommendation to install CCTV systems on buses and subway cars. A federally funded working group helping Transport Canada draft a new security plan is looking into the installation of surveillance cameras on public transportation vehicles buses and subway cars as an anti-terrorism option.

The Canadian Press reports the use of CCTV cameras is mostly limited to Canada’s transit stations and platforms, but the study will look at placement aboard vehicles.
