CANASA Assists World’s Largest Fire Drill
MARKHAM, Ontario, Canada
The Canadian Security Association (CANASA) will be assisting the “World’s Largest Fire Drill” again this year. Last year, the first time the World’s Largest Fire Drill was conducted, more than 1,900 Ontario schools evacuated in excess of 1 million children, all at the same time.
CANASA learned from the experience and so this year’s drill, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 11, will be conducted during the entire class day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This will minimize the impact on monitoring companies and fire departments.
CANASA represents 1,170 members in the security industry and, as a member of the “World’s Largest Fire Drill” Committee of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Public Safety, the organization will ask its members that monitor fire alarm systems to support this year’s drill by working with local fire departments and schools.
School boards participating in the drill are asked to notify their local fire departments and respective alarm monitoring stations one week prior to Oct. 11, if they intend to conduct the drill. They should also provide a list of all schools in their local that intend to participate.
In the case of an actual emergency on the day of the drill, schools must use 911 to communicate with authorities.
