LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. — Canon U.S.A. will unveil its first megapixel network cameras during ISC West.
The VB-M Series will include three 1.3-megapixel IP models: VB-M40 pan/tilt/zoom (p/t/z); VB-M600VE fixed vandal-resistant outdoor dome; and VB-M600D fixed dome.
The VB-M40 provides a 20x optical zoom lens and a wide 55.4° angle of view. An auto focus function improves focusing accuracy in low-light and other challenging situations. The IP66-rated VB-M600VE offers a vandal resistant dome enclosure that protects the camera from shock and impact if someone is trying to break it. The VB-M600D features a 3x optical zoom lens with an ultra-wide 101.2° angle of view.
Each of the network cameras are ONVIF-compliant and feature CMOS image sensors, Canon’s DIGIC NET image processing and smart shade control. Video streaming options include simultaneous transmission of H.264 and Motion-JPEG (M-JPEG) resolutions. M-JPEG resolutions can simultaneously stream at frame rates up to 30 frames per second (fps).
“The DIGIC processor is powerful enough that it can output an MPEG-4 signal at the same time that it’s outputting an M-JPEG,” Canon Technical Advisor Chuck Westfall tells SSI. “An operator can view a full megapixel feed on his computer that can be immediately accessible to someone who is remotely monitoring from his smartphone. With remote monitoring, all it takes is a Web-enabled smartphone and a password to get into the URL that ties into some of the cameras’ features, such as video analytics.”
In addition to the video analytics capabilities, provided by the cameras, such as abandoned, moving and removed object detection, the line also offers camera analytics. The function includes sound level and camera tampering detection.
“By having these features, it takes a load off of the person monitoring all the individual feeds simultaneously,” says Westfall. “The camera can help out as much as possible in terms of alerting users when something awry happens.”
The VB-M40 will ship in May, while the VB-M600VE and the VB-M600D will ship in July.
While Canon’s go-to-market strategy will include multiple channels, the company will focus in particular on working with systems integrators and value-added resellers, Westfall says. He adds that the company will market the product to the corporate and education markets. “We’re also marketing to anyone trying to upgrade from VGA, whether it’s an analog or a digital network.”
Canon will also display its current lineup of digital VGA cameras at ISC West at booth No. 21061. For more product information, click here.
