BEIJING – A security camera in a northeastern Chinese city captured a sinkhole swallowing up five people who were waiting for a bus at a bus stop.
The surveillance footage shows the moment several individuals fell into a sinkhole as it opened up in the pavement in China’s Heilongjiang Province on August 23, The Guardian reports.
At least three people fell straight into the hole, while a woman can be seen clinging to steel cables just underneath the sidewalk. Another person standing on the edge fell sideways into the hole.
Passers-by pulled the victims from the hole, which was about 10 feet deep. At least four people were injured during the incident, CBS News reports.
It was not immediately clear what caused the sidewalk to collapse. The cause is under investigation.
