Hurricane Dennis has caused the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and state health departments to issue an alert to the public concerning the health dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Among the list of ways to avoid accidental CO poisoning, the agencies recommend installing CO detectors with battery backup in homes.
CDC says home furnaces damaged by the hurricane that struck the gulf states July 10 may cause excessive CO emissions within a home, which damaged gas lines can do the same just outside a home.
