The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) has been joined by the Center for Campus Fire Safety (CCFS) in its ongoing efforts to educate government officials, agencies and the public about fire/life-safety issues.
In 2006, NBFAA began a public education pursuit under the slogan “Fire Detection Plus Fire Suppression Equals Fire Safety,” which calls for a balanced approach to fire safety as the best way to save lives.
One of the outcomes of the campaign has been the introduction of legislation designed to enhance fire safety on college campuses. NBFAA began working with Rep.Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.) to draft language that would establish a demonstration incentive programwithin the U.S. Department of Education to promote the professional installation of fire alarm detection systems, or other fire prevention technologies in qualified student housing, dormitories and other university buildings.
The campaign has prompted CCFS to assist the NBFAA in achieving its educational and legislative goals, according to CCFS Executive Director Amy Hamel.
“The addition of the CCFS will help us in our efforts to get this legislation signed into law. We’re gratified to have the assistance of an organization that provides a central focal point for the complex issues surrounding campus fire safety,” says NBFAA Director of Government Relations John Chwat. “We know that having them onboard will help us to generate support from all those individuals and organizations who are interested in campus fire safety.”
