After visiting Virginia Beach to look at the city’s surveillance, Charleston Mayor Danny Jones and Police chief Brent Webster are planning to implement a similar surveillance system in their city.
Virginia Beach currently has 18 cameras monitoring the city, while Charleston only has three, according to The State Journal.
Jones said he wants hundreds of surveillance cameras throughout Charleston, and he and Webster are drawing from Virginia Beach’s setup. Each camera unit is expected to cost about two thousand dollars.
“I would say you need to watch ’em all the time and that’s why we’re going to take it slow, but we’re going to do this,” Jones told the newspaper.
