Checkpoint Systems Inc., a global provider of security solutions and an innovator in radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, has completed the installation of its Intelligent Library System(tm) (ILS) at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Library. With implementation of ILS, the University of Pennsylvania joins Farmington Community Libraries in Michigan and Rockefeller University Library in New York, among others, in reporting dramatic results in reducing materials handling time by as much as 75 percent.
The integrated system provides libraries with patron self-checkout and check-in, inventory control, circulation management, and loss prevention. ILS can eliminate the labor of manual materials checkout and return processes, while controlling losses through electronic article surveillance (EAS). “The University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Library is a model for the library of the future,” says librarian Susan G. Williamson. “We wanted to ensure that our technology was in sync with the library’s aim to better serve our patrons and turned to Checkpoint to help us achieve our goal.”
